Founded in 1981 with just 15 learners, Vela School has grown into a dynamic institution offering quality English-medium education from Grade 0 to Grade 12. Rooted in Christian values, we nurture academic excellence, cultural and sporting achievement, and spiritual growth.

Community service is a core part of our school's curriculum and traditions. Our students help others by assisting at local organizations like the Empilweni Old Age Home and Thembelihle Children's Home, which gives them a chance to provide much-needed support to the community.

Through our partnerships with Spur and Panarotis, we offer students a unique opportunity for work experience. By working directly with these companies, learners gain practical knowledge of business systems and operations, which helps them develop a strong entrepreneurial mindset.
We use the internationally recognized IEB (Independent Examinations Board) curriculum, which is renowned for fostering critical thinking and preparing students for success both locally and at leading global universities.
We also make Business Studies mandatory for all high school students, ensuring every learner is equipped with the entrepreneurial skills and foundational business knowledge needed to thrive in any profession.
Our school is founded on Christian principles. We begin each day with morning prayers for every class, fostering an environment where students are encouraged to look to their Creator. Our curriculum also includes opportunities for students to share meaningful scripture with their peers. All staff members are practicing Christians, a requirement for employment, and we carefully assess each teacher's personal philosophy during the interview process.

It is in our blood that no learner should ever finish school with inadequate skills, unable to tackle life, and struggle even to keep themselves alive. We build personal relationships with our learners to fully understand the neuroplasticity of each and every of our learners. This allows us to develop teaching strategies that cater for each and every of them.
Excellence is not an act, excellence is our identity. Our pass rate testifies: since 2019 we have had 100% pass rate, to top that off in 2024 we got 94% of the 100% pass being bachelors. We do not just teach school work. We inspire the learners to excel and impart our excellence to the learners.
